THE ART OF CREATIVE PRACTICING

In my courses, you'll always have my enthusiastic permission to take inspiration and copy the included exercises and illustrations as part of the creative process! After all, my intention is to help you become a better artist. By studying and replicating the course content, you'll acquire valuable techniques, develop a deeper understanding of telling stories without words, thoughtful compositional content, along with formulating essential processes that cultivate your creative voice. Practicing the art of copying, or what I like to call creative practicing, will help you establish a strong foundation and open the door to discovering your one-of-a-kind signature style. - Danielle

IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES

Over the duration of our time together, you'll learn to illustrate and watercolor a detailed scene filled with billowing clouds, bitty birds in flight, paper airplanes carrying top-secret messages, radiant sunshine, and dreamy rainbows. You'll begin by preparing a customized color palette and a thoughtful composition based on thumbnail drawing practice. Additionally, you'll practice new watercolor techniques including big background and rainbows, paper piecing, a smidge of sewing, and even ways to correct inevitable mistakes. The course is structured around my creative process: study, prepare, practice, and imagine, ensuring a focused-but-fun learning method that can be applied to future art projects. By the end of the course, you'll have a new method to create beautiful illustrations with confidence and skill.

All my courses include detailed videos and coordinating handouts and worksheets. In this course, the curriculum includes advanced techniques such as planning compositions, painting large watercolor washes, and adding intricate details with pencil and watercolor with mixed-media embellishments.

LET'S DREAM!

Join me as I demonstrate how to create a mixed-media scene using pencilwork, watercolor, patterned paper, and various mixed-media supplies. Through step-by-step breakdown exercises, you will learn how to combine different mediums and techniques to achieve a beautiful outcome. By the end of the class, you will have acquired new techniques to add to your creative toolbox and a multitude of fresh ideas for new illustrations.

Twice the Fun.

Learn how to illustrate a traditional paper airplane and a paper-piecing with simple steps. They'll both fly their way into your assembled illustration.

So Fluffy.

We'll make sweet and simple clouds with patterned paper, lovely watercolor washes, and elevated doodling. Stitching is optional, of course.

Let's Fly.

Discover how to create a flock of simple birds, from flying up and down to diving left and right, including lovely patterns and a touch of white ink.

Most of the supplies I use are artist-grade and are a more significant investment than student-grade. I highly encourage you to use what you have and take notes while watching the videos for the first time. Then, invest in the supplies that will truly enhance your own art.
