IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES
Made with Love is a watercolor mixed-media illustration course built around one of the most charming subjects imaginable — the well-loved, paint-splattered, ruffled and ribbon-tied artist's apron. You'll illustrate three complete aprons from start to finish: a floral apron, a prairie apron, and an overall apron — each one drawn, painted, and detailed through its own three-part video sequence. Before you pick up a pencil, three warm-up exercises walk you through controlled color splashing, layered mark-making, and a full collage assembly that prepares your eye and hand for everything ahead. And when the main projects are done, there's even more waiting: a gallery of ten additional apron illustrations, a bonus altered apron lesson, a bonus stitched apron lesson using real fabric, a miniature sewing pattern with straps and pockets, and bonus drawing sheets for ribbons, banners, and sashes. This is one of the most generous courses in the school.
UNLOCK A NEW SKILL
With a background in graphic design and fine art, I create illustrations that tell hidden stories. What makes Made with Love unlike anything else here is the focus on illustrating a series — the same subject, three times, each one distinct. Drawing a floral apron, then a prairie apron, then an overall apron isn't repetition; it's the deliberate practice of learning a subject deeply enough to make it your own. Along the way you'll master controlled watercolor splashing — a technique that sounds chaotic but is entirely intentional — and develop a rich mark-making vocabulary using multiple mediums layered over washes. The ability to draw convincing fabric folds, ruffles, and gathered pockets with pencil and then bring them to life with color is a skill that transfers to every illustration you'll ever make of clothing, fabric, or soft-edged form.
BUILD YOUR CRAFT
There's a reason this course opens with three exercises before you ever draw an apron. The splashing, the mark-making, the collage assembly — each one builds a specific skill that shows up directly in the projects that follow. By the time you're drawing your first ruffle, you already know how your brush behaves, how your marks layer, and how to compose without second-guessing yourself. Then each project follows the same draw, paint, mark sequence, so you're building fluency in the process itself, not just copying results. That sequence becomes a method you can take to any subject, creating a depth that shorter classes simply can't match.
